INVICTUS by William Ernest Henley

“Invictus” (Latin for “unconquered”)

Out of the night that covers me,
Black as the pit from pole to pole,
I thank whatever gods may be
For my unconquerable soul.

In the fell clutch of circumstance
I have not winced nor cried aloud.
Under the bludgeonings of chance
My head is bloody, but unbowed.

Beyond this place of wrath and tears
Looms but the Horror of the shade,
And yet the menace of the years
Finds and shall find me unafraid.

It matters not how strait the gate,
How charged with punishments the scroll.
I am the master of my fate:
I am the captain of my soul.

Kilas Balik

Lima tahun yang lalu
Dengan semangat yang menyala
Tekad yang kuat
Harapan yang indah
Kudatang tuk meraih impian

Bagaikan sebuah jalan
Tak selamanya lurus dan mendatar
Naik dan turun

Tiba suatu saat
Kuingin berhenti
Berbalik arah
Tapi tak bisa
Ku harus melanjutkan perjalananku

Perjalananku telah usai
Ku telah mencapai satu tujuan
Tujuan awal tuk melangkah lagi
Tuk meraih impian

Poem by Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;

Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim
Because it was grassy and wanted wear,
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,

And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I marked the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way
I doubted if I should ever come back.

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

Dia begitu elok
Terang bersinar
Memancarkan cahaya
Di tengah kegelapan
Malam yang pekat

Kukagum olehnya
Kuterpesona oleh dirinya
Kuingin menggapainya

Kuingin kau selalu ada
Bersinar terang
Tuk menemani diriku

Sebuah Renungan ‘YAKOBUS’

Dalam kesendirianku
Aku bertanya pada Tuhanku

“Tuhan, mengapa aku harus mengalami masa-masa sulit?
Sepertinya penderitaan tak pernah lepas dari hidupku
Dan air mata selalu menghias di pipi
Masalah demi masalah selalu menghadang
Aku merasa tercekik
Sulit bagiku untuk bernafas
Aku terhimpit dalam kesesakan

“Tuhan, begitu banyak hal yang tak terselami oleh pikiranku”
Aku tak bisa mengerti
Rasa ragu menyelimuti diriku

“Tuhan, apakah Kau ada?”
Sepertinya Kau tak peduli pada diriku
Berbagai pertanyaan berkecamuk dalam benakku

“Tuhan, jawab aku, bantu diriku untuk memahami arti semua ini!”

A poem by MITSUO AIDA.

Because it has lived its life intensely

the parched grass still attracts the gaze of passers-by,

The flowers merely flower,

and they do this as well as they can.

The white lily, blooming unseen in the valley,

Does not need to explain itself to anyone;

It lives merely for beauty.

Men, however, cannot accept that ‘merely’

If tomatoes wanted to be melons,

they would look completely ridiculous.

I am always amazed

that so many people are concerned

with wanting to be what they are not;

what’s the point of making yourself look ridiculous?

You don’t always have to pretend to be strong,

there’s no need to prove all the time that everything is going well,

you shouldn’t be concerned about what other people are thinking,

cry if you need to,

it’s good to cry out all your tears

(because only then will you be able to smile again).
